BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University volleyball team battled East Stroudsburg University in a close match, but the Huskies fell to the Warriors, 3-0, Friday night. The Huskies dropped to 3-14 on the year and 1-3 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action, while the Warriors improved to 9-8 and 3-1 in conference play.

The first two sets came down to the wire as ESU hung on for a 25-23 win in both. The Warriors closed the match with a 25-17 victory in the final set.

Trailing 24-20, the Huskies faced set point in the opening game, but a kill by
Emily Jackson (Dover, N.J./Morris Hills) got the ball in the hands of freshman
Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) at the service line. Two strong serves by Antigua knocked the Warriors off balance offensively, and the Huskies cut the lead to 24-23. The Warriors regrouped and finished the set with a kill on the next serve to take a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors carried the momentum into the second set and built a 7-3 lead before the Huskies chipped away thanks to a kill by
Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and
Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) combined with a pair of attack errors by ESU, which made it 10-7. ESU pushed its lead back to 18-13 before four-straight points, highlighted by a kill from
Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) and an ace from Buell, cut the lead to 18-17. The two teams traded the following three points before the Huskies went on a three-point sprint to take their first lead, 21-20, thanks to a kill from Warfel. After another trade of two points, the Huskies held a 22-21 lead before the Warriors used three-straight to earn their first set point of the second game, 24-22. Buell ended their run with another kill to cut the lead to 24-23, but Claire Choloux ended the game with a kill to give the Warriors a 2-0 advantage.

The Huskies and Warrior kept it close in the third set. After ESU took a 12-8 lead, the Huskies rattled off four straight to tie the game 12-12. ESU answered with five straight to retake the lead 17-12. The Warriors managed to hold off the Huskies' comeback attempt and escaped with a 25-17 win in the final game.

The Huskies hit .105 as a team for the match, with 39 kills and 24 errors on 143 attempts. Bloomsburg posted double-digit kill totals in all three sets, including a 17-kill second set. Bloomsburg hit .224 in the middle frame with 17 kills and just six errors on 49 attempts.

Leading the way for Bloomsburg was Antigua with 13 kills and just five errors on 32 attempts for a .250 hitting day. She added 15 digs, an assist, and a block assist. Warfel finished the day with eight kills and five digs. Buell finished the day with six kills, two aces, a solo block, a block assist, and seven digs.
Freshman
Hannah Robson (Charlotte, N.C./Arborbrook) had 29 digs on the day, while junior setter
Aydan Espinal (Rock Hill, S.C./Rock Hill) dished out 32 assists and posted nine digs.

The Huskies return to action on Saturday, October 1, when they host Kutztown University for a 2:00 p.m. match at Nelson Field House.
