#13 Women's Soccer Falls to East Stroudsburg, 1-0, Wednesday

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The 13th-ranked Bloomsburg University women's soccer team dropped a slim 1-0 decision to visiting East Stroudsburg University Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies fell to 8-2 on the year, and 6-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East play, while the Warriors improved to 6-2-2 and 4-2-2 in conference action.

After a scoreless first half for both teams, the Warriors broke the scoreless tie in the 65th minute thanks to a well-placed corner kick. Teagan Marshall put the corner kick into the top corner of the box, and Natalie Schooley got her head on it. Finding its way through traffic, Schooley's shot found an opening and evaded senior keeper Riley Spingler's (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) hands for the 1-0 ESU lead.

Just two minutes before the Warrior goal, the Huskies had one of their best scoring chances of the contest as graduate student Nicole Varano (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel) went 1-on-1 with the Warrior goalie. Varano's shot was barely turned away back into the field, and her follow-up shot just grazed the post as the Huskies were turned away.

Sophomore Brooke Foster (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) managed another shot with just over 10 minutes to play, but her attempt went over the crossbar. Senior Campbell Power's (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) final attempt of the game missed to the right, and the Warriors hung on for the 1-0 win.

The Huskies tested the Warriors' keeper Emmy Clarkson early with a pair of shots in the first five minutes, but both were stopped. The Warriors answered with a couple of shots on their end of the field, and Spingler made both of those saves.

Sydney Hoover (Davie, Fla./Western) and Power each took a shot on net in the final five minutes of the half but couldn't find an opening for a scoreless first.

The Warriors held a slight 11-10 advantage in shots for the game, though shots on goal were even 5-5. ESU had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Spingler finished the day with four saves.

The Huskies look to rebound on Saturday as they travel to #5 West Chester University for the battle of the top teams in the PSAC East. Game time is slated for 12:00 p.m. in West Chester, Pa.
