PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A goal by sophomore forward
Anthony Schlee (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) in the first half lifted the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Holy Family on Wednesday.
Schlee's goal came 19 minutes into the game when he received from
Parker Nickelsen (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) at the top of the box, and the sophomore was able to send the ball into the top right corner of the net for the score.
The goal is Schlee's third on the year, which leads the Huskies (4-0, 0-0 PSAC East) so far this season, and it would prove to be the only score of the contest as Holy Family (1-3, 0-0 CACC) was limited to three shots on goal during the contest.
Brady Rimple (Cherryville, Pa./Northampton Area) anchored the defense with its shutout effort as the goalkeeper had three saves to help keep Holy Family scoreless.
The Huskies outshot the Tigers by a final tally of 14-9. Bloomsburg finished with a total of four shots on goal while Holy Family had three. Holy Family held the advantage on corner kicks, taking a total of six opposed to Bloomsburg's three.
Bloomsburg's four shots on goal came from four different players. Along with Schlee,
Liam Harmon (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area),
Alex Wilsterman (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) and
Foti Malitas (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) all put a shot on target during the contest.
The shutout victory is Bloomsburg's second straight as the Huskies beat Caldwell 1-0 in their last contest. The win gives the Huskies a perfect record of 4-0 against non-conference opponents during the early goings of the 2022 season.
Bloomsburg will have one more non-conference game on the road before picking up play in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Huskies will head to Felician (2-1-1) on Saturday for a contest that is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.
