KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball earned its first road victory in conference play this season with a 3-1 decision over Kutztown Friday evening.
Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) was the catalyst for the Huskies' success, finishing with a season-high 12 kills while hitting a program record .579 and totaling seven blocks.
Jenna Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley),
Emily Jackson (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) and
Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) each recorded at least seven kills in the match.
Elise Adelman (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) pieced together an all-around stellar performance outside her setting duties with 14 digs, six kills and five total blocks on top of 31 assists.
Bloomsburg topped its season-best mark for blocks for the third consecutive match against Kutztown, finishing with 13 on the evening. In total, four different Huskies had at least five cumulative blocks.
How It Happened:Â
The Huskies got off to a slow start in the first set, falling behind to a 6-0 run to open the match. The Golden Bears were up by as much as seven points at 15-8 in the opening frame.
Bloomsburg began to settle into the contest and chipped away at the Kutztown advantage. Jackson led the initial charge in the first set, recording a kill and a block assist to cut the home side's advantage to three.Â
Bopp anchored the final stretch in the opening set with three kills and two block assists to help Bloomsburg take a 1-0 lead in the match.Â
The Huskies had another slow start to begin the second set, facing an eight-point deficit at 10-2. A 5-0 run led by the middle pairing of Bopp and Jackson cut the Golden Bears' lead to three.Â
Despite a 4-0 scoring run to cut the deficit to one, Bloomsburg could not make a final push in the second frame before the Golden Bears evened the contest at one set apiece.
The two teams went back and forth throughout the third set, with both sides clamoring for control in the matchup.Â
With the set tied at 19-19, the Huskies dug in and found a way to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Jackson again came through offensively and defensively with a kill and a block, while Dubosky and Adelman each had crucial points to help the team seize the moment.
Bloomsburg rose to the occasion in the fourth set to capture a 3-1 victory on the road. Bopp and Dubosky led the charge, each recording four kills and a service ace in the final set. Jackson complimented the duo with three kills of her own while Adelman saved the best for last, ending the evening with 11 assists in the final frame. Dubosky wrapped up the night for the Huskies with a match-sealing ace to claim the set, 25-16.
