Women's Soccer Outpaces Shippensburg To Earn Road Victory

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's soccer team took down Shippensburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Wednesday night at David See Field.

Junior Brooke Foster (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) put Bloomsburg (3-4-3, 3-3-2 PSAC East) on the board early, scoring on a corner just nine minutes into the game. Senior Alivia Gallardo (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) perfectly curled the ball on net to connect with Foster for the opening goal.

The maroon and gold shut down the Shippensburg (1-9-0, 1-7-0) offense for much of the first half, holding the Raiders to just one shot in the first 34 minutes of the contest. SU finally cracked through the Bloomsburg defense in the 37th minute as Ava Ciriaco potted the equalizer on a centering pass from Mia Kemp.

The Huskies held a 9-3 advantage in shots when the halftime whistle sounded.

The beginning of the second half saw the Bloomsburg attack on full display, firing nine shots in the first ten minutes.

In the 61st minute, junior Erin Ranegan (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) was the beneficiary of a chaotic sequence in front of the net, scoring her first of the year to give the Huskies the 2-1 lead. After several shot attempts from senior Lauren Bull (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) inside the box, the ball found its way to the right foot of Ranegan for the goal.

The Raiders had a chance to force a draw in the 88th minute, but graduate goalkeeper Riley Spingler (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) was there to make the save. Spingler posted three saves in the win.

Overall, Bloomsburg outshot Shippensburg 24-9 in the matchup. Bull led the team with six shots while Foster recorded four. Gallardo and Ranegan each tallied three shots.

The Huskies finished with a 14-1 advantage in corners.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Saturday, October 7 for a 12 p.m. contest against Shepherd at Steph Pettit Stadium.
