SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. – Doug Walsh (Old Forge, Pa./Holy Cross High School) earned a spot on the national qualifying list and broke the school record in the heptathlon as the Bloomsburg men's indoor track and field team competed in its final meet of 2023 at the Susquehanna Early Season Multi and Invite on Saturday.
 
Doug Walsh (Old Forge, Pa./Holy Cross High School) broke the school record in the heptathlon, scoring 4,701 points and earning a spot on the national qualifying list. He finished in the top three in all but one event. Walsh achieved lifetime bests in 5-of-7 events. His 1.96-meter high jump surpassed the PSAC high jump standard by 8 centimeters. The previous school record was set by Stephen Grib in 2012 with a score of 4,699 points. Andrew Kane () finished third with 4,108 points.
 
Bloomsburg won the 4x400-meter relay as the team of Robert Wilson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon), Peter Umbenhaur, Finnegan Purtle, and Salahdin Abdul Hamid finished with a time of 3:35.01.
 
Purtle and Abdul-Hamid teamed with Andrew Basile (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) and Jack Brunner to take second place in the sprint medley.
 
Junior Brady Dowell (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) took fifth place in the 400-meter with a time of 53.08, while Purtle and Wilson finished seventh and tenth respectively.
 
Dufrene picked up a top-ten finish in the mile, crossing the line ninth with a time of 4:37.55.
 
Junior Dillon Steffy (Elliotsburg, Pa./West Perry High School) placed fifth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.70 meters.
 
The Huskies resume competition in 2024 as they will compete in the Spartan Invitational in Staten Island on January 12.
