FLORENCE, S.C. – The Bloomsburg softball team split their final two games of the Francis Marion tournament on Monday, closing out their opening weekend tournament with two wins against West Liberty.
The Huskies began the last day of the tournament on a high note with a 9-6 victory over West Liberty and closed out the afternoon with an ill-fated 13-1 loss to Francis Marion.
In their second game against West Liberty in as many days, the Huskies found themselves down early in the contest after an early home run from the Hilltoppers put them up 2-0 after the third inning.
Kelly Eberly (Purcellville, Va/Homeschooled) kept the Huskies in it, posting three strikeouts early in the contest.
The Huskies quickly climbed back into the game two innings later thanks to a timely single to center field from
Jayla Bartholomew (Williamsport, Pa/Williamsport) that got the Huskies on the board with two RBI's. The offense continued to hum from there. The following inning,
Bella Culp (Harrisburg, Pa/Central Dauphin) scored on a wild pitch and
Alex Iseminger (Everett, Pa./Everett Area) doubled to left center for an RBI, extending the Huskies' lead to 4-2.
From then on, the Huskies didn't look back as the offense exploded for five runs in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and only one out,
Kayleigh Lenner (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) singled to shortstop, earning her first RBI of the weekend. The Huskies rode the hot hand as Iseminger followed up with a single to left field, scoring two more on the play. A fielding error allowed the Huskies to close out their scoring for the day with three more runs in the inning.
In the second game, the Huskies did what they could to steady the attack of the Patriots.
Callie Sowers (Irwin, Pa/Hempfield Area) threw for two strikeouts in the first inning, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to slow the Francis Marion offense.
Early in the third, Iseminger doubled to left center.
Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) singled two plays later but advanced to second on a throwing error, and the lone score for the Huskies came on the unearned run as Iseminger reached home on the play.
The Huskies will be back on the field this weekend with a doubleheader at Bloomfield College. The opening pitch is set for Saturday, March 4
th at 1:00 pm in Bloomfield, NJ.
