BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg softball team opened up its home slate a few weeks earlier than expected when the Huskies hosted Bloomfield at Cheech & Jelly Field at Bloomsburg Area High School, Sunday afternoon. The Huskies swept the Bears with a 4-0 win in the first game and an 11-3 six-inning victory to close out the day.

Sophomore pitcher
Callie Sowers (Irwin, Pa/Hempfield Area) held the Bears hitless until the top of the fourth inning. Danielle Walters opened the frame with a single to left but
Emma Little (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and
Bella Culp (Harrisburg, Pa/Central Dauphin) connected on a caught stealing to clear the basepaths. Alicia Serrano single to left with two outs but Sowers got Jocelyn Moody looking at strike three to escape any danger.

The Bears threatened against in the top of the sixth with runners on the corners and one out but the Huskies' defense got Walters out at home on an attempted double steal before Sowers once against struck out Serrano.

Kammy Kropinski (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) provided all the offense needed in the first game with an RBI single to left to bring home
Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) and give BU a 1-0 lead. Welsh then added some insurance runs with a two-run home run to left center in the third and
Sage Weidlich (Pittston, Pa./Pittston) scored on a dropped fly ball in the fourth for the 4-0 advantage.
Sowers finished the game with 13 strikeouts and allowed just five hits and one walk over the 7.0 innings of work.

The second game provided a few more runs and was a back-and-forth battle until the final inning.

Welsh double to right center to bring home Culp in the third inning and Bloomfield answered in the top of the fourth as Gianna Casilla doubled down the right field line and scored Moody for the Bears' first run of the day.

The tie did not last long as
Kayleigh Lenner (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) doubled to center with two runners on and both came home as Kropinski and Tayler Kranzley crossed the plate for a 3-1 Bloomsburg lead.

The Bears remained patient at the plate and drew three walks to load the bases. Spencer Ventura hit an infield single to short to score Madison Buechner before Jillian Holmes worked a walk to bring home Tatayana Rodas and tie the game.

Kranzley got the bats going in the bottom of the sixth with a hard-hit single back to the pitcher before Kropinski got on with a bunt down the third base line. Weidlich reached on a sacrifice bunt attempt after the pitcher threw over the first baseman's head and Kranzley came around to score. Lenner hit the first ball out of the infield for the Huskies with a single to center to bring home Kropinski and give the Huskies a 5-3 lead. Culp got on with another bunt single that brought home Weidlich and
Alex Iseminger (Everett, Pa./Everett Area) bunted to third to load the bases. Welsh get kept the line moving with a single through the right side that brought home Lenner and kept the bases loaded. The Bears defense got their first out with a pop up to short before
Emma Little (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) came into pinch hit. With the bases loaded, Little sent a ball over the center first fence to clear the bases and give the Huskies an 11-3 win in six innings.

Kelly Eberly (Purcellville, Va/Homeschooled) got the win in the circle going the distance and allowing three runs, all earned, on just three hits and eight walks. She struck out 11 in the 6.0 inning effort.

Culp had four hits for the day while Lenner finished with four and three RBI. Welsh had four hits, three runs, and four RBI between the two games for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg gets back to action on Tuesday when they head to Bowie State for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader in Bowie, Md.
