Lacrosse Falls to Millersville In Tightly Contested PSAC East Battle

BLOOMSBURG. Pa. – The Bloomsburg lacrosse team dropped a tightly-contested 14-12 match to Millersville Saturday afternoon. The Huskies fall to 4-3 and 1-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action, while the Marauders improve to 4-3 and 1-1 in the PSAC East.

Hayden Corcoran got the scoring going for both sides with a strike at the 12:10 mark on a free position shot, but 45 seconds later, sophomore Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) made her second save of the game and the 200th of her young career.

Following Foley's save, the Huskies had a successful clear, and freshman Julia Cote (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) went to the cage and scored to tie the game at 1-1 with 10:40 to play. Cote's goal kicked off a three-goal run for the Huskie, including a goal from Madison Coyle (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) and Annie Rollins (Shamong, N.J./Seneca), to give BU a 3-1 lead with 6:17 to play in the first. The Marauders answered with two straight of their own to tie it at 3-3, but Kate Roberts (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) picked up a ground ball off a save by Morgan Scott and immediately fired it past the Marauder net-minder to give BU a 4-3 lead with 3:21 to play.

Millersville responded with two more goals to take a 5-4 lead before Coyle scored with 36 seconds left before the first break to tie the game, 5-5, at the end of the first.

Roberts and Maya Fulmer (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) went back-to-back for the Huskies in the second quarter to give Bloomsburg a 7-5 lead, but Millersville closed the quarter on a four-goal run to take a 9-7 lead into halftime.

Coyle opened the third quarter with her third of the game and 12th of the season to cut the lead to one, 9-8, but two straight from Liv Genovese and Charlotte Lasack gave Millersville its largest lead of the game, 11-8, with 6:41 to play. Cote and Amanda Stoll (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) scored two quick goals for the Huskies to get them back to within one, 11-10, with 2:18 to play in the third. Rachel Keeney won Millersville's next draw, immediately went to the cage, and scored to push the Marauder lead back to two, 12-10, with 1:32 to play.

Neither team found the back of the net in the first 10 minutes of the fourth quarter, but Coyle ended the scoreless streak with a free position shot goal at the 5:49 mark to cut the lead back to one, 12-11.  Ashlyn Simonetti and Cassidy Griffin (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) traded goals before Hayden Corcoran scored the game's final goal with 43 seconds to play to seal Millersville's 14-12 win.

Coyle finished the game with four goals and six draw controls, while Fulmer won four draws and Stoll won two. Roberts and Cote each had a pair of goals, Rollins finished with one goal and an assist, and Haley Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) had a couple of assists.

Foley finished the day with 11 saves, including her career 200th in the first. She led the team with four ground balls as well.

The Huskies return to action on Wednesday, March 22, when they welcome Kutztown University to Steph Pettit Stadium for a 2:00 p.m. PSAC East contest.
