Men's Tennis Falls At Home To Fairmont State Wednesday

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's tennis team fell to Fairmont State during a home tennis match at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on Wednesday.

Fairmont State was able to gain the doubles point after winning two of the three doubles matches, then the Falcons won six singles matches to take a 7-0 victory.

Bloomsburg's Fernando Barros (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Hoosac School) and Scott Redmond (Paget, Bermuda/Warwick Academy) won the No. 3 Doubles match to deny a sweep during the doubles portion of the match. The tandem beat Fairmont State's Mohamed Moens and Austin Noel by a final tally of 6-3 to earn the victory.

Redmond also won his first set of the No. 6 Singles match, beating Alex Stacy by a score of 6-4 in the opening set, but Stacy came back to defeat Redmond in the next two sets to win the match.

The tandem of Vishesh Patel (Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India/Asia English School) and Albert Martin (Barcelona/Instituto Menendez y Pelayo) played tough in the No. 1 Doubles match, but the two ultimately fell by a final score of 6-4 to Fairmont State's Ken Watanabe and Alexandre Pages.

Martin's No. 1 Singles match was also a battle as he took Eli Barozzi to an extra point in the second set, but Barozzi won the frame 7-5 to win the match.

The men's tennis team will be back in action on Friday with a home match against Millersville. The event, which was originally scheduled to take place Saturday, is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM on Friday at the Burt Reese Tennis Center in Bloomsburg.

Additionally, the team's tennis match with West Virginia Wesleyan has been moved to Friday, April 7. That match will take place at Frostburg State as the Huskies are scheduled to compete on the road against Frostburg State on April 7 also.
