Lacrosse's Late Comeback Stymied by #14 East Stroudsburg on Wednessday Afternoon

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The late comeback attempt from Bloomsburg lacrosse came up just short as the #14 East Stroudsburg Warriors held on for a 13-7 win over the Huskies, Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With 4:45 to play and the Huskies trailing 13-4, junior Kristen Lee (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) forced an ESU turnover and Amanda Biehl (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) picked up the ground ball to kick off a successful clear for Bloomsburg. The Huskies, still in a player-advantage situation, set up their offense and Amanda Stoll (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) fed a pass to Annie Rollins (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) who scored her 15th goal of the season with 3:38 to play in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors won the ensuing draw control but Stoll quickly forced another ESU turnover to get the ball back to the Huskies. A foul on East Stroudburg set up a free position shot for Stoll and the junior buried her attempt for her 11th goal of the year and trimmed the deficit to 13-6 with 1:49 to play.

Madison Coyle (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) won the next draw control for the Huskies and Cassidy Griffin (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) drew a foul this time to set up another FPS for Bloomsburg. Griffin's shot got past the ESU goalie and the East Stroudsburg lead was cut to 13-7 with 48 seconds to play. The Warriors won the final draw of the game and Lauren Neufeld's free position shot as time expired went wide as ESU held on for the 13-6 win.

Annie Rollins (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) got the Huskies on the board first in the opening quarter as her second attempt on net found a hole for her 14th goal of the season. The Warriors tied the game on their next possession but Stoll quickly answered with a diving goal at the 11:17 mark to give the lead back to BU, 2-1.

After nearly eight minutes of scoreless action, ESU tied the game on with 3:17 to play in the quarter. Freshman Reiley Knize (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) gave the lead back to the Huskies at the end of the frame with her sixth goal of the season at the 1:07 mark.

The Warriors out-scored the Huskies 7-0 in the third quarter to take a 9-3 lead into the break and pushed their lead to 12-3 with 7:36 to play in the third with three-straight goals coming out of halftime. Kelsey Clauss (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) stunted the run with a free position goal at the 4:55 mark to cut the lead to 12-4. Neither team found the back of the net for the rest of the quarter before the Huskies out-scored ESU 3-1 in the final quarter.

Stoll led the Huskies with three points behind two goals and an assist and had a team-best three caused turnovers. Maya Fulmer (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) led the Huskies with six draw controls while Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) finished the day with five saves in 37:24. Emily Graham (Wantagh, N.Y./St. Anthony's) made three saves and allowed one goal in 22:36.

The Huskies return to action next Wednesday when they come back to Steph Pettit Stadium for a 2:00 pm PSAC East contest against Shippensburg.
