PHILADELPHIA – The women's tennis team dropped a road match at Chestnut Hill by a final tally of 6-1 on Thursday.
The Griffins took the doubles point by going 3-0 in doubles matches, then Chestnut Hill won five of the six singles matches to take the 6-1 victory.
Bloomsburg's
Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School) won the No. 3 singles match over Chestnut Hill's Claudia Rasilla in three sets to deny the Griffins a sweep in singles matches. Rasilla won the first set 6-2, but Ilkovic bounced back with a 6-1 win in the second set to force the third set. Ilkovic then won the tiebreaker set to record the victory.
In doubles matches, Ilkovic and
Jen McDonald (Melbourne, Australia/Brentwood Secondary College) gave Chestnut Hill's Nele Haag and Alison Isaac a tough battle in the No. 2 doubles match, but the Griffins' duo won the contest 6-3. During the No. 1 doubles match,
Lexi Quackenbush (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) and
Luana Bernardi (Aruja, Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) battled with Chestnut Hill's Carlota Garcia and Roma Meirovich, but the Griffins also won that match by a score of 6-3.
The women's tennis team is scheduled to host Jefferson on Sunday for its next match. The match is Senior Day and is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
