SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's tennis team got back in the wins column as the Huskies swept Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East opponent, Shippensburg, 7-0 Friday afternoon. The Huskies improved to 4-10 on the year and 4-2 in the PSAC East while the Raiders dropped to 3-8 and 2-4 in conference play.
The Huskies currently sit in third in the standings heading into the final week of conference play.
Bloomsburg swept doubles matches to grab the doubles point and take a 1-0 match lead.
Alyssa Mazurek (McAdoo, PA/Hazleton Area) and
Brooke Henry (Saint Mary's, PA/Saint Mary's Area) combined for a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles to open doubles play before
Lexi Quackenbush (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) and
Jen McDonald (Melbourne, Australia/Brentwood Secondary College) secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 1.
Sarah Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and
Alese Rinker (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) closed out doubles play with a 6-2 win at No. 2.
Capoferri put the Huskies up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles while Quackenbush pushed the BU lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1. McDonald secured the match win with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2.
Rinker picked up her second win of the day with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 and Mazurek won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5.
Maddie Delisio (West Hanover, Pa./Central Dauphin) closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
The Huskies close out the regular season next Tuesday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a PSAC East match.
