Women's Lacrosse Falls to West Chester on Senior Day

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's lacrosse team fell to top-ranked West Chester University 18-8 Sunday afternoon after a thunderstorm postponed the Huskies Senior Day celebrations. Bloomsburg dropped to 6-8 on the year and 3-5 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action while the Golden Rams improved to 13-0 and 8-0.
 
Prior to the start of the game on Saturday, the Huskies honored their five seniors – Kelsey Clauss (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), Vittoria LaBanca (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls), Kate Roberts (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman), Annie Rollins (Shamong, N.J./Seneca), and Haley Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley).
 
The contest originally got underway shortly after the celebrations and Madison Coyle (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) gave BU a 1-0 lead with her 20th goal of the year 1:17 into action. Freshman Julia Cote (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) pushed the Huskies' lead to 2-0 with her 15th of the year with 9:25 to play in the first. Hannah Stanislawczyk got the Golden Rams on the board at the 8:27 mark and Keri Barnett tied the game at 2-2 with 7:48 to play.
 
With 6:43 on the game clock and at 1:23 p.m. the first lightning strike was seen and play was suspended. After four more strikes kept pushing the time of resumption later and later, the decision was made to suspend play and pick it back up the next day.
 
Play resumed on Sunday at 2:00 pm and Stanislawczyk gave West Chester its first lead with 3:22 to play in the first quarter. Two more Golden Ram goals in the final 2:38 of the quarter pushed WCU's lead to 5-2 after the first 15 minutes.
 
West Chester extended its lead to 7-2 with 12:06 to play in the second before Clauss and Williams scored back-to-back goals to cut the advantage to 7-4 with 9:06 to play. West Chester answered on its next possession to push its lead back to 8-4. Mia Boccippio (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) found the back of the net with 8:00 to go before halftime to trim the lead to 8-5 but four-straight from WCU gave the Golden Rams a 12-5 lead with 3:06 to play before the break.
 
Amanda Stoll (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) closed out the first half with her 20th of the season to cut the WCU lead to 12-6 at halftime.
 
The Golden Rams strung together five-straight goals to extend their lead to 17-6 with 7:01 to play but Williams cut the lead back to 10, 17-7, at the 3:33 mark in the third. Madeline Edinger scored the Golden Rams only goal of the fourth at the 10:30 mark to push the lead back to 11, 18-7, but Roberts ended her senior day game with her 29th goal of the year and 100th-career point as she scored with 17 seconds to play off a fast break.
 
Clauss led the Huskies with three points behind a goal and two assists while Williams had two goals. Coyle and Boccippio each scored and handed out an assists and Roberts, Stoll, and Cote had a goal for the Huskies.
 
Amanda Biehl (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) led the defense with three caused turnovers and Clauss and Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) had three ground balls each.
Foley made three saves in the loss for the Huskies while Emily Graham (Wantagh, N.Y./St. Anthony's) allowed three goals and made five saves.
 
The Huskies hit the road on Wednesday as they travel to Kutztown, Pa. for a PSAC East match up with the Golden Bears. The opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m.
