BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The women's tennis team is set to square off with Millersville on Thursday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Quarterfinals matchup.
The winner of the match, which is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM at Millersville, will advance to the PSAC Semifinals on Saturday.
Bloomsburg will enter the contest with a 5-2 conference record, and that includes a solid span of play that saw the team win five of its last six conference matches.
In conference play,
Sarah Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) leads the team in singles wins with her 6-1 record.
Alese Rinker (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) and
Lexi Quackenbush (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) both have four conference wins, and
Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School) and
Alyssa Mazurek (McAdoo, PA/Hazleton Area) each have three. Overall, Rinker and Capoferri both have a total of seven wins.
Two tandems for Bloomsburg lead the squad in doubles wins within conference play with four apiece.
Luana Bernardi (Aruja, Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) and Quackenbush sport a 4-1 record while the team of Capoferri and Rinker have a 4-2 record together.
The Huskies enter the quarterfinals matchup as the No. 3 seed for the Eastern Division while Millersville comes into the contest as the No. 2 seed after obtaining a 6-1 conference record. The Marauders won their last two matches against Shippensburg (W, 7-0) and Frostburg State (W, 6-1).
The team is led by a pair of players who are undefeated in conference play in Chloe Abramowitz and Hui Jen Soo, who are both 7-0. In doubles play, Abramowitz and Maria Ojeda are 6-0 in PSAC East matches while Noelle Htwar and Soo are 6-1.
The winner will play the Western Division's No. 1 seed Indiana (Pa.) at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Burt Reese Tennis Center in Bloomsburg. West Chester, the East's No. 1 seed, will play in the other semifinals matchup on Saturday at Bloomsburg against either Slippery Rock or Mercyhurst. The Rock will play the Lakers in the other quarterfinal match on Thursday.
Bloomsburg will host the PSAC Championships on Sunday at 10:00 AM.
