BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The men's tennis team fell to Saint Francis 5-2 in a non-conference tennis match during Senior Day on Sunday.
Before the match,
Scott Redmond (Paget, Bermuda/Warwick Academy),
Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Deutsche Schule Málaga (Spain)) and
Victor Martinez (Barcelona, Spain/Padre Damian Sagrados Corazones) were honored for the team's annual senior day celebration.
During the doubles portion of the match, Redmond and Wiesemann paired up in the No. 2 doubles match and went toe to toe with SFU's Christian Banti and Patrick Reese. Banti and Reese ultimately won the match, however, by a final score of 7-5.
Saint Francis also won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to take the doubles point.
In singles competitions,
Iu Casamitjana (Igualada, Spain/Escola Pia Igualada) won an exciting No. 2 singles match, taking the first set 7-6 and the second set 6-3 to win the match.
Martinez posted another victory for Bloomsburg in the No. 3 singles match by beating Jordi Garcia of Saint Francis. Martinez won the first set 6-4 before blanking Garcia in the second set, 6-0.
Wiesemann won his first against SFU's Greg Troyan in the No. 4 singles match, but Troyan came back to win the next two sets to take the victory.
The Red Flash won the other three singles matches to take the 5-2 road win.
The men's tennis team will be back in action on Monday with a home match against Kutztown at 3:00 PM.
