LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The Bloomsburg softball team split its doubleheader with Lock Haven on Thursday afternoon to move to 13-17 in conference play this season. Â
The opening match of the day saw very little offense from both sides, the combined hit total for both teams was four, two on each side.
Â
Although the offensive side wasn't very stellar,
Callie Sowers (Irwin, Pa/Hempfield Area) had a solid day on the mound, finishing with six strikeouts and two hits allowed on 19 at-bats. Sowers earned her 13
th win of the season to move to 13-15 on the year.
Â
The Huskies lone run of the day came in the top of the third inning.
Kayleigh Lenner (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) got the ball rolling on a double to left field. The following play, Lenner reached third on a passed ball, putting her in scoring position.
Bella Culp (Harrisburg, Pa/Central Dauphin) would get credit for the RBI a play later on a fielder's choice, which also ended up being the game-winning run as Bloomsburg would go on to win the opening contest 1-0.
Â
The latter half of the day saw the Huskies fall 4-1 to the Bald Eagles on a solid pitching and defensive performance from Lock Haven. Bloomsburg finished with five hits on 25 at-bats.
Â
The Huskies were down two runs early but fought back to bring it within a run in the top of the fourth inning.
Emma Little (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) got the offense going on a double to right field, followed by an RBI-double from
Alex Iseminger (Everett, Pa./Everett Area) two plays later to get the Huskies on the board and within striking distance.
Â
Unfortunately, the Bald Eagles would extend their lead in the latter half of the inning on a clutch double from Lock Haven's Bella Schmitt to go up 4-1.
Â
With the split today the Huskies trail Lock Haven by a game in the conference standings, they'll look to continue their late playoff push this weekend as they host Millersville in their final doubleheader matchup of the season.
