EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg softball team came home with one win Friday as they split their doubleheader with East Stroudsburg.
In the opening contest, the Huskies managed to put up eight runs on their opponent, a top-two team in the conference. East Stroudsburg would then respond with an impressive win of their own in the latter contest, defeating the Huskies by a score of 9-1.
To open the day,
Callie Sowers (Irwin, Pa/Hempfield Area) led the Huskies with an impressive showing on the pitching mound. Sowers finished the first contest with nine strikeouts through seven innings and limited the Warriors to only three runs on seven hits.
On the offensive side, the Huskies got on the board early in the first inning after back-to-back doubles from
Kayleigh Lenner (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) and
Sage Weidlich (Pittston, Pa./Pittston).
Taylor Kranzley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) then cracked a single up the middle to put the Huskies up 2-0 early.
Now up 4-0 in the top of the sixth, the Huskies were looking to put this game away. With the bases loaded after an impressive hitting spree,
Mia Nemeth (Drums, Pa/Marian Catholic) homered to left field, her first of the season, and it couldn't have come at a better time in the game. The Huskies went up 8-0 and Sowers closed out the final inning with two strikeouts as the Huskies defeated the Warriors 8-3.
The Huskies totaled nine hits in the opening game. Five separate players finished with and RBI, and three finished with a double.
The Huskies fought hard in the latter contest, but the Warriors found a groove on offense early, totaling 12 hits on 24 at-bats.
Kranzley went 3-for-3 and earned the Huskies their lone RBI of the game on a single to shortstop at the top of the fifth.
The Bloomsburg softball team is back in action tomorrow with another conference matchup at Millersville. The doubleheader is slated for a 1:00 PM start.
