Softball Splits Road Doubleheader At Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Bloomsburg softball team split their doubleheader with Millersville on Saturday afternoon.

To open the day, the Huskies put up nine runs and 13 hits, shutting out the Marauders by a score of 9-0.

Callie Sowers (Irwin, Pa/Hempfield Area) led the way on the mound, allowing only three hits through all seven innings on top of the shutout. Sowers finished with 11 strikeouts in her ninth win of the season.

The Husky offense got on the board early in the first inning on a single from Taylor Kranzley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton), earning her two RBI's on the day. Sage Weidlich (Pittston, Pa./Pittston) doubled just two plays earlier and finished the opening game 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

In the fourth with one on base, Mia Nemeth (Drums, Pa/Marian Catholic) hit a timely triple to right field, putting the Huskies up 3-0. Just two plays later after a single from Kayleigh Lenner (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy), Weidlich had a triple of her own to put the Huskies up 5-0

The Huskies closed out their offense for the contest in the sixth inning with a series of singles to cap off a balanced win.

The Huskies dropped their second game of the day by a score of 5-3.

Down for a majority of the contest, the Huskies put up all three runs in the final inning. Seven different players finished with a hit and three with an RBI.

On the mound, Lillian Gray (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford), Taylor Welsh (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville), and Sowers each finished with at least a strikeout in the contest.

The Huskies take the field again next week as they host Jefferson for a home doubleheader on Tuesday, April 11th. Opening pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
