Women's Tennis Splits a Pair of Matches Over the Weekend; Pick Up Key PSAC East Win

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Bloomsburg women's tennis team split a pair of dual matches over the weekend as the Huskies fell to Frostburg 4-3 on Friday because earning a key Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East win, 6-1, over Shepherd on Saturday.
 
Frostburg 4, Bloomsburg 3 (April 7)
 
On Friday, the Bobcats grabbed the doubles point with a sweep of the doubles matches.
 
Sarah Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) got the Huskies on the board with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 and Alese Rinker (/) won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5. Jen McDonald (Melbourne, Australia/Brentwood Secondary College) scored the final point for the Huskies with a 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles. Lexi Quackenbush (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) took Lorena Pintar to a tie break at No. 1 singles, but ultimately fell, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Bloomsburg 6, Shepherd 1 (April 8)
 
The Huskies got on the board right away with a sweep of the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Quackenbush and Luana Bernardi (Aruja, Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles while Capoferri and Rinker won 6-3 at No. 2 Brooke Henry (Saint Mary's, PA/Saint Mary's Area) and Maddie Delisio () picked up a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
 
Capoferri, Alyssa Mazurek (McAdoo, PA/Hazleton Area), and Juliana Kim (Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Memorial High School) swept their opponents with 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles, respectively to claim the match win.
 
Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School) gave the Huskies a 5-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles and Rinker closed out the 6-1 match win with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
 
The Huskies host West Chester on Wednesday in a key PSAC East match at the Burt Reese Tennis Center at 4:00 pm. The Golden Rams are currently the top seed in the East and the Huskies are the No. 3 seed heading into the final stretch of conference matches. The top three seeds from each division earn a spot in the PSAC tournament.
