Men's Soccer Nets Late Equalizer Against #24 East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's soccer mustered one final effort to come away against No. 24 East Stroudsburg with a 1-1 draw Wednesday evening.

The Huskies (1-1-2, 0-0-1 PSAC East) continued their run of form in two distinctive facets, with Sam Blumberger (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) skying for a Stephen Hollis (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) corner kick to tie the game in the 85th minute.

How It Happened:
The matchup between the Warriors (3-0-1, 0-0-1) and the Huskies was a physical, back-and-forth contest, with the two sides combining for 21 fouls and six yellow cards.

The teams traded some errant shots and a few fouls through the early moments of the game with neither team able to create clear-cut scoring chances through the first half hour of play. Within the first 30 minutes of play, East Stroudsburg picked up three yellow cards that set the tone for the game moving forward.

The No. 24 Warriors got on the board first with its first shot on target, a tidy piece of finishing from leading goal scorer Colby Raymond. Despite several more shot attempts before the end of the half, the Huskies entered the break trailing 1-0.

East Stroudsburg continued to be aggressors through the first 15 minutes into the second half. Goalkeeper Brady Rimple (Cherryville, Pa./Northampton Area) made three crucial saves in that span while the Bloomsburg defense blocked a pair of shots to prevent any further damage. Rimple concluded Wednesday's with five saves, all of which came in the second half.

As the second half continued, so too did the Huskies offensive comfort level. The team forced the agenda with several set piece opportunities that led to three save from the Warriors' goalkeeper Helgi Hermannsson.

As time began to wind down, Bloomsburg found itself in familiar territory. With just over five minutes left in the match, Hollis stepped over the corner kick and sent in the ball that found the head of Blumberger. The headed effort from the midfielder is the second last-minute opportunity to find the back of the net this season and force a tie.

Both teams were able to put chances on net in the dying moments, but neither team could find a winner.

The Huskies once again had a stark advantage in corner opportunities, ending the match with a 9-2 advantage.

On The Horizon:
The Huskies play their first match of the season in Steph Pettit Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 16,  in conference action against West Chester.
