Women's Soccer Shuts Out Mansfield in Home Opener, 3-0

Gallardo recorded a goal and an assist in the victory

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Huskies women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday night, shutting out Mansfield, 3-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Steph Pettit Stadium.

Bloomsburg (1-2-2, 1-1-1 PSAC East) opened the scoring in the home opener in the 12th minute. Junior forward Alena Totten (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) found the back of the net with a header off a ball sent in from the corner by senior midfielder Alivia Gallardo (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West).

The Huskies held Mansfield (2-2-0, 1-2-0) to just two shots in the first half, neither of which were on target.

In the second half, the maroon and gold continued to apply offensive pressure, firing off five shots in the first 20 minutes of the half.

In the 67th minute, the continued pressure led to junior midfielder Marlee Potillo (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) getting fouled in the box and being awarded a penalty. On the ensuing PK, Gallardo beat the goalkeeper by launching the ball into the top-right corner to give the Huskies a two-goal lead.

Just four minutes later, sophomore defender Lorelei Hartzfeld (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) took the ball down the left side of the box before finding senior forward Amanda Stoll (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) in the middle for an easy tap-in to extend the lead to 3-0.

Bloomsburg outshot Mansfield 15-5 while finishing with 9-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Graduate goalkeeper Riley Spingler (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) earned her 13th career shutout and made one save in the 57th minute.

The Huskies return home on Saturday, September 16 for a PSAC contest against Millersville starting at 5 p.m.
