Volleyball Earns Win Over Edinboro Behind Strong Offensive Performance

ERIE, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball earned the win against Edinboro in straight sets behind a record-setting offensive output Friday evening.

The Huskies (2-6) prevailed with career-best offensive performances from several key players while piecing together a well-rounded defensive effort to earn the victory.

Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) (5.67) and Jenna Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) (4.67) set new benchmarks in kills per set, while Dubosky set a new career-high with 14 kills. Elise Adelman (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) ended the night with her fifth double-double of the season, simultaneously setting a career-best with 11.67 assists per set.

How It Happened:
Bloomsburg capitalized early, taking a 1-0 lead in the match behind the offensive output of Antigua and a strong defensive presence on the block. Forcing Edinboro (3-5) into seven early attack errors, the Huskies jumped to a 10-7 lead in the first set.

As the Fighting Scots tied the first set at 10-10, Bloomsburg began to pull away behind the power of Antigua and Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria). A service ace from Antigua after a timeout gave the Huskies an 18-12 cushion.

Edinboro rallied from the six-point deficit to take a 22-23 advantage in the first frame. After grabbing a collective breath from a timeout, Bloomsburg secured the next three points to take the first set.

Set two of the night went back and forth between the sides before the Huskies pulled away late to claim a 2-0 advantage.

After a run of errors on the attack and from the service line put Bloomsburg behind 7-10, the Huskies' offense began to collect form and tie the second frame at 11-11.

A set-leading seven kills from Antigua and five from Dubosky helped Bloomsburg capture its first lead since 3-2, jumping out to an 18-16 lead before an Edinboro timeout.

From that moment, the Huskies captured nine of the subsequent 11 points to seal the second frame. Bloomsburg benefited from another solid service run from Allison Saalfrank (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and a set-ending kill from Sophie Wales (Port Matilda, Pa./State College).

The Huskies locked in and closed out the third set to take home the match in straight sets.

The trio of Antigua, Bopp, and Dubosky helped the Huskies close out what would prove to be the final set of the night. The three combined for 13 of Bloomsburg's 15 kills in the last frame, with Antigua clinching the win with the final swing of the night.

Wales finished with four kills while hitting .300 in her first collegiate match.

Antigua set the program records for most kills and most points (20) in a three-set match, while Dubosky entered a tie for third for most kills in three sets. Adelman is now tied for the second-most assists in a three-matchup.

As a team, the Huskies finished with the second most kills and assists in a three-set contest in program history.
