ERIE, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team dropped both games on Saturday to wrap up the final road trip before the start of conference play.
The Huskies (2-8) saw continued offensive output from the duo of Antigua and Dubosky, but their combined efforts were not enough to get Bloomsburg a win.
How It Happened:Â
The Huskies opened the day with a morning contest against Gannon (8-2) but could not keep pace in the three-set contest.Â
The Huskies jumped out to a 4-2 lead early but relinquished the advantage. The Golden Knights captured the advantage in the first set and never let go, taking the first frame.
The second set played out similarly to the first. Bloomsburg found spurts of momentum that were quickly countered by Gannon throughout the second set. The Golden Knights were led by the output of Journey Blevins, who entered the weekend second nationally in kills per set.
The Huskies fell behind in the match 0-2, dropping the second set 18-25.Â
The final frame proved to belong to Gannon, with the Golden Knights' attack lifting them to victory. Bloomsburg looked for a defensive stop, but several key runs from Gannon helped seal the win.
In the second game of the day, the Huskies were unable to bounce back from the previous setback and suffered the second loss of the day to Mercyhurst.Â
After taking the first set of the match, Bloomsburg lost three consecutive nail-biter frames in the eventual loss.
Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) shined for a season-best offensively while continuing to be a constant presence as the anchor of the Huskies' defense.
Allison Saalfrank (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) continued her solid season from the service line for Bloomsburg while providing backup defensively.
The Huskies could not close out the remaining three sets, with the Lakers (2-6) taking each by just two points.
On The Horizon:
Bloomsburg prepares for its first home match of the season, a PSAC East matchup with Lock Haven at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22.
