BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team lost its first conference game of the season against Lock Haven Friday evening.
The Huskies (2-9, 0-1 PSAC East) had several unforced service errors that stalled momentum at critical points throughout the night. Bloomsburg matched a season-high total with eight blocks, led by senior
Emily Jackson (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) with three.
How It Happened:Â
After back and forth between the sides that saw a narrow 13-11 lead for the visitors, the Bald Eagles (5-3, 1-0 PSAC East) went on an 8-0 run to take a 23-12 advantage deep into the opening set.
Despite three successive points to cut the margin to 23-15 for the Huskies, Lock Haven closed out the first frame to take a 1-0 lead.
Bloomsburg cleaned up some early mistakes to even the match and take the second set, 25-20.Â
Three straight kills and an ace by
Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) helped the Huskies claim an early 10-5 lead in the second set.Â
After an even exchange of points, two kills from
Jenna Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) and a solid team defensive effort helped the Huskies even up the contest.Â
Both teams battled in the third set, but ultimately, Lock Haven came out in front, 25-23, to go up 2-1.Â
Down 6-5, the play of Dubosky and Jackson on the block helped Bloomsburg grab an 8-6 advantage. The even play between the two sides continued deep into the third frame.
After
Elise Adelman (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) gave the Huskies a 23-22 lead, a set-ending 3-0 run by the Bald Eagles secured the set.Â
The fourth and final set shared much of the night's trends and ended in favor of the visitors.Â
Bloomsburg used an early run of bad form from the Bald Eagles to go up 5-3 in the fourth before losing the lead to a 4-0 run, giving Lock Haven a two-point margin at 12-10.
The Huskies managed to tie the fourth set at 18-18 thanks to a pair of kills from Jackson. After the tie, Lock Haven took control thanks to some clutch hitting from Emma Kelly that sealed the Friday night contest.
Maura Uschock (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) led Bloomsburg in the match with a season-high three service aces.Â
