Â
Bloomsburg won the coin toss and deferred to the second half to give the Fighting Scots the ball to start the game. Edinboro returned the opening kick 23 yards to its 25-yard line, but an offsides flag on the Huskies gave the Fighting Scots the ball on the BORO 30-yard line to start the game. The Fighting Scots took the ball 70 yards on eight plays and took 4:22 off of the clock to score on their opening drive with a four-yard touchdown run by Brian Trobel.
Â
Edinboro returned the offsides call on its kick as Reed Martin sent his kick off 58 yards to the Bloomsburg 7-yard line. Monaco ran it back 17 yards and got the ball on their one 29, thanks to the flag. Monaco opened the drive with a 24-yard scurry down to the BORO-47 and carried the ball twice to get down to the Edinboro 45-yard line. Riley attempted his first pass of the game on the 3rd-and-8, which fell incomplete, but the Fighting Scots were called for roughing the passer to spot on the ball on the BORO-30. The Huskies got down to the Edinboro 27-yard line on a three-yard run from Monaco before Riley hit Griffen-Batchler for seven yards and a Husky first down on a 3rd-and-7 play. Monaco did the rest on the drive as he carried the ball three more times and went the final 20 yards for the score.
Brendan McGonigle (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) hit the extra point attempt to tie the game at 7-7.
Â
The Huskies forced the Fighting Scots to go for it on fourth down on their next drive, but Edinboro turned the ball over on downs after failing to get one yard on a 4th-and-1 play from the Bloomsburg 13-yard line. The Huskies had the ball as the first quarter ended but had to punt on their first play of the second.
Â
Edinboro got down to the Bloomsburg 32-yard line but faced a 4th-and-19 after a fumble behind the line of scrimmage and two straight tackles for loss for the Huskies. Martin's 49-yard field attempt went wide left, and the Huskies took over at their own 32-yard line.
Â
Each offense sputtered through the next eight minutes of game action as two drives ended with a punt, two Husky drives ended in a fumble, and one Edinboro drive ended with Mitchell's INT.
Â
The Fighting Scots had the ball with 25 seconds to play in the second quarter after a Bloomsburg fumble and needed to go just 21 yards to get into field goal range as Martin hit a 48-yard kick to give Edinboro a 10-7 lead at halftime.
Â
Edinboro scored on their first drive of the second half after forcing a 3-and-out from the Huskies on their opening drive. The Fighting Scots went 55 yards on 11 plays to take a 16-7 lead after
Giovanni Cancro (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock Township) blocked Martin's extra point attempt.
Â
The Fighting Scots opened the fourth quarter with another long touchdown drive as they went 80 yards on nine plays and took 5:25 off the clock. The Huskies answered immediately as Riley hit Jones for a 20-yard gain down to the Bloomsburg 40-yard line. Monaco broke off a 49-yard run down to the BORO-11 after getting tripped up before getting into the end zone. Riley and Jones connected for an 11-yard play to finish the drive, but the Huskies couldn't convert the 2-point attempt, and the Huskies cut the Edinboro lead to 23-13.
Â
As the Fighting Scots drove down the field on their next possession, Long picked off Isaac Bernard at the Bloomsburg 10-yard line and ran it back to the BORO-47. As Bloomsburg was driving, Riley hit
Peyton Persing (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) for a 17-yard catch, but a tough fumble call gave the ball back to the Fighting Scots, who ran a minute off the clock before giving the ball back to the Huskies with just 1:35 to play after forcing Bloomsburg to use all three time outs.
Â
The Huskies drove down the field but ran out of time to get into the endzone as the Fighting Scots held on for the 23-13 win.
Â
Bloomsburg looks to return to the win column next Saturday when the Huskies open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action at Shippensburg. The opening kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
