FINDLAY, Ohio – The Bloomsburg University men's soccer fought back from a two-goal deficit on Saturday to earn a 2-2 draw against the University of Findlay.Â
Trailing 2-0 into the 54th minute, goals from
Anthony Schlee (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley)Â and
Sam Blumberger (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) eight minutes apart helped the Huskies even up the scoresheet.
How It Happened:
The Oilers got out in front early, scoring the game's first goal within the first minute. From there, the Huskies continued to pressure, drawing seven corners in the first half. The University to Findlay tacked on its second goal of the game in the 13th minute to extend a 2-0 advantage heading into the halftime break.
After allowing the first two shots to get by, goalkeeper
Brady Rimple (Cherryville, Pa./Northampton Area) made seven consecutive saves to close the match.
The Huskies added their first goal of the game after working it in from back to front. Rimple sent a ball into the opposing half, where Blumberger nodded it forward.
Jaliyl Melvin (Mount Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) gained control of the loose ball and laid it off to
Alex Wilsterman (Orefield, Pa./Parkland). The senior midfielder whipped a low-driven ball to Schlee and last season's top goal scorer slotted home his first of the season.
The continued pressure from Bloomsburg paid off, as it tied the match at 2-2 in the 62nd minute. After drawing their 10th corner kick of the game,
Stephen Hollis (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) sent in a ball past the back post that found senior
Sammy Ames (Holly Ridge, N.C./Dixon). Ames whipped in a cross at the near post to Blumberger for the sophomore's second headed goal in as many games.Â
The Huskies had their first chance to take the lead in the 68th minute but could not get a shot to find the back of the net after a flurry of shots from the Bloomsburg attack. Bloomsburg made one last offensive push in the 89th minute but could not find a late decider.
On The Horizon:Â
The Huskies return to the field for a midweek clash on Wednesday, September 6th, at 4:00 p.m. against Caldwell University.Â
