CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of games as it wrapped up the first weekend of play at the Vulcan Invitational.
The Huskies dropped a tight five-set match (23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-18, 12-15) to begin the day against West Virginia Wesleyan before falling to host California (Pa.) (25-14, 18-25, 12-25, 26-24, 11-15) in the third five-set contest of the weekend for Bloomsburg.
Against West Virginia Wesleyan, freshmen
Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) and
Elise Adelman (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) paced the Huskies' offense. Both players finished the game with double-doubles, Antigua finishing with 22 kills (.380) and 12 digs, while Adelman orchestrated the attack with a career-best 49 assists and 10 digs.
Four Huskies finished with double-digit digs against the Vulcans, including freshman
Hannah Swank (Boswell, Pa./Conemaugh Township) and sophomore
Tayla Miller (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte), who led all players with a career-high 22.
Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) had a team-high with four blocks, with
Emily Jackson (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) and
Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) each finishing match one with three. Johnson concluded the opening action of the day with a career-high 13 kills against the Bobcats.
Against the Vulcans, Antigua led the Huskies' offense, finishing with a team-high and new season-best 23 kills (.255) in match two. In the match, Bloomsburg totaled 13 service aces, Adelman wrapping up the contest with five,
Allison Saalfrank (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) finishing with four to go with a career-best 15 digs and
Jenna Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) totaling three. Graduate student
Shayna Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) provided a spark off the bench, registering eight kills and five digs in two sets played.
Antigua was named to the all-tournament team after finishing the weekend with a combined 62 kills for a .296 hitting percentage while adding 26 digs, three blocks, two aces and two assists to her totals.
The three five-set matches are the most played consecutively by the Huskies in program history.

The Bloomsburg University volleyball team will head back out on the road to begin play at the Findlay Classic on Thursday, September 7, at 7:00 p.m. against host University of Findlay.
