Men's Soccer Captures First Conference Win of the Season Over Shepherd, 3-0

Shepherdstown, W. Va. – The Bloomsburg men's soccer team secured its most decisive win of the season, earning a 3-0 decision against Shepherd for the first conference win of the season Wednesday afternoon.

A trio of Huskies netted their first goals of the year as Sammy Ames (Holly Ridge, N.C./Dixon) gave Bloomsburg the lead in the second half, while goals from Alex Wilsterman (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) and Jaliyl Melvin (Mount Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) in the final 10 minutes sealed the final result.

How It Happened:
The contest between Bloomsburg (2-2-2, 1-1-1 PSAC East) and Shepherd (1-5-0, 0-3-0 PSAC East) remained even after the first half despite several opportunities for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg held a 6-3 shot advantage and a 5-3 margin for corners through the opening 45 minutes. Despite the opportunities, the Huskies' defense did not allow a single shot on target, both in the opening half and for the remainder of the afternoon.

Bloomsburg forced an array of saves from Shepherd goalkeeper Carter Cave, as the Rams keeper made five saves in the opening half.

The Huskies opened up the scoring in the second half as Ames scored his first goal of the year on a solo effort that put Bloomsburg out in front for good.

Not letting their foot off the gas, the Huskies nabbed two more goals in the final 10 minutes. Wilsterman converted from the penalty spot for his first goal of the season as Melvin cut inside with a ball from Sam Blumberger (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) to ice the game at 3-0.

In the end, Bloomsburg held a 14-4 shot advantage with a 10-0 difference in shots on goal. The team once again finished with a positive margin in corner kicks, edging the Rams in the category, 7-4.

On The Horizon:
The Huskies return to Steph Pettit Stadium on Saturday, September 23, at 3:00 p.m. for a PSAC matchup against Shippensburg.
