Men's Soccer Secures Victory Against Lock Haven

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's soccer team continued a stellar run of form in PSAC play with a 1-0 win against Lock Haven Wednesday evening.

The Huskies (4-2-2, 3-1-1 PSAC East) got off to a quick start with a goal from Kody Besser (Lacey Township, N.J./Lacey Township). The momentum from the score and solid defensive pressure throughout the pitch led to the third consecutive conference win for Bloomsburg.

How It Happened:
The Bald Eagles (2-3-3, 0-2-2 PSAC East) opened the game with much of the possession through the first 10 minutes of action. As the half developed, the flow went back and forth between the two sides,  each looking for an edge.

The first shot of the match for Bloomsburg came off a set-piece opportunity. After a nodded pass to the far post, Sammy Ames (Holly Ridge, N.C./Dixon) could not make solid contact with a follow-up header that ended wide.

The Huskies capitalized after being awarded a throw-in opportunity in the 25th minute. Teagan Wallace (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) stepped into a throw that landed in the box and on the head of Besser, who headed the ball over the goalkeeper for his first goal of the season.

The opening half remained in a stalemate, with neither side able to find a definitive opportunity in the remaining time.

The game settled in the beginning 20 minutes of the second half until Bloomsburg found a golden opportunity.

After Anthony Schlee (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) was fouled in the box, the junior forward stepped up to the spot for an attempt. After finding the back of the net, the referee disallowed Schlee's attempt on the grounds of a team procedural violation.

Schlee found himself on the penalty spot again, this time with under eight minutes to play. After Stephen Hollis (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) was taken down inside the box, Schlee stepped up and fired another shot, but Lock Haven goalkeeper Brady Freiwald made an impressive save.

With time winding down, the Bald Eagles made a last-ditch effort to find an equalizer. Despite several shot attempts from the visitors, the Huskies came away with the victory.

On The Horizon:
The Bloomsburg men's soccer team returns to the road in conference play on Saturday, September 30, at 6:00 p.m. to take on Millersville.
