Late Equalizer Secures Draw For Men's Soccer Against Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's soccer team scored late to capture a draw against Millersville Saturday evening.

The Huskies (4-2-3, 3-1-2 PSAC East) rescued a point on a free-kick opportunity as Braden Alicea (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) sent a ball deep into the Marauders' side of the field. The headed ball found an open Sammy Ames (Holly Ridge, N.C./Dixon), who chipped it past the goalkeeper to force the 1-1 decision.

How It Happened:
Bloomsburg wound up falling behind early after an early goal from Millersville (5-1-3, 2-1-2 PSAC East). A pass from Michael Dempsey found Richy Valverde as the Marauders jumped out to a 1-0 lead just past the six-minute mark.

The Huskies' attack pressed forward for a goal, leading to several opportunities. Ames put two shots on target in the first half, forcing saves from the Millersville goalkeeper.

Despite the early goal, the match was nearly with a 5-4 shot advantage for the Marauders, and both sides drew two corner opportunities.

The match continued to be a physical contest, as both sides fought for control of possession. Both sides finished the night with 14 fouls and two yellow cards.

As Millersville continued to push into the attacking third, the Bloomsburg defense maintained composure. The Huskies only allowed three shots in the final 45 minutes.

After retaking possession in its defensive end, Bloomsburg lined up for the pivotal set-piece opportunity following a Marauder yellow card. Alicea stepped into a booming kick into the final third that led to the scramble and clinical finish for Ames' second goal of the season.

In one final push, Millersville put its first shot on target in the half, where Brady Rimple (Cherryville, Pa./Northampton Area) made a routine save. The defense continued its stand to secure the draw in the final moments of the tightly contested match.

On The Horizon:
The Huskies return to Steph Pettit Stadium on Monday, October 2, as Bloomsburg takes on Goldey-Beacom at 7:00 p.m.
