BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team was defeated on Friday evening, dropping a 3-1 match against Shepherd.
Jenna Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) led the Huskies in kills for the third time this season, finishing with a team-high 13 kills in the defeat. Freshman
Elise Adelman (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) ended the night with a career-best six service aces.
How It Happened:Â
Bloomsburg (3-10, 0-2 PSAC East) jumped out to an early advantage in the first set. A 4-0 run helped the Huskies to a 4-2 lead that grew to 7-4 in part to the efforts of
Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) and
Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring).
Shepherd (6-9, 1-1 PSAC East) responded to the Huskies' efforts to tie the set, take the need and never look back. The Rams outscored Bloomsburg 21-7 to close out the first frame. Dubosky led the Huskies with three kills in the set.
Bloomsburg continued to struggle with the Shepherd attack in the second frame, falling behind 2-0.
Maura Uschock (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) provided the Huskies with a 2-0 lead in the set. The Rams would retake the lead as Bloomsburg kept the set close within distance at 7-6.
Shepherd widened the margin with a pair of 5-0 runs to make it 19-9. Despite trading side-outs, the Huskies could not overcome the deficit in the second set.
Although trailing, Bloomsburg fought to capture the third set, 25-20. The .288 hitting percentage from the Huskies was the best offensive frame on the night.
Bloomsburg opened with a 4-1 lead thanks to two kills from Antigua.
Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) contributed to the momentum with a kill and a solid service run to expand the margin to 9-5. Dubosky sealed the third set in part to two kills and two aces before
Emily Jackson (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) grabbed the final point of the set with a kill.
The Huskies valiantly battled to stay in the match, but the fourth set ultimately favored the Rams.Â
Bloomsburg began the fourth set with a 10-6 advantage.
Livia Moore (Luzerne, Pa./Holy Redeemer) contributed to the attack with two kills, while the duo of Antigua and Bopp combined for back-to-back blocks for the four-point lead. Shepherd rattled off a 7-0 run to make it 13-10.
Trading points for the remainder of the set, the Huskies sought ways to close the gap. Three kills in the final points between seniors Bopp and Moore were not enough to mount the comeback.
On The Horizon:
The Huskies finish off a two-game road trip with a match on Saturday, September 30, at 1:00 p.m., against Shippensburg.
