Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team fell in straight sets to Shippensburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest at Heiges Field House on Saturday afternoon.

Bloomsburg (3-11, 0-3 PSAC) fell behind 10-3 in the first set before a kill by Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) swung the momentum in the Huskies favor. A 12-5 run by maroon and gold evened the contest at 15 points a side. The run included a pair of kills from Emma Antigua (Kimball, Minn./Kimball) and an ace from Liz Bopp (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria).

From there, the two sides traded points to level the score at 18. A late 3-0 run from Shippensburg (12-5, 3-0) gave them the edge as the Raiders took set one 25-21.

The second set saw Bloomsburg trailing by five, as Maddie Clabaugh and Gracen Nutt combined for five kills early on for SU. A pair of three-point runs in the middle of the set helped the maroon and gold close the gap, though the Huskies were unable to complete the second-half comeback, dropping the set 25-20.

Bloomsburg recorded 11 kills in the second set, with Johnson leading the way with four. Jenna Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley), Bopp and Antigua each posted two kills in the set. Elise Adelman (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) assisted on 10-of-11 kills for the Huskies in the second frame.

Despite Bloomsburg striking first in the third set, Shippensburg pulled ahead early and took the lead all the way to the final whistle, winning the match with a 25-15 third set.

Overall, Johnson posted a team-leading seven kills in the match, with Antigua and Dubosky each finishing with five. Adelman finished the day with 20 assists.

Emily Jackson (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills), Bopp and Adelman each recorded two block assists on Bloomsburg's six blocks in the match.

The Huskies return to Nelson Field House on Friday, October 6 against West Chester at 6 p.m.
