BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's soccer dropped a hard-fought battle to West Chester, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action. The Golden Rams improved to 5-2-1 on the year and 5-2-0 in conference play, while the Huskies dropped to 2-4-3 and 2-3-2 in the PSAC East.
Â
The Huskies put the pressure on the West Chester defense early with a flurry of shots in the first 10 minutes.
Maddie Davis (York, Pa./Central York) took a shot that went just wide after a Bloomsburg corner kick in the third minute.
Aubrey Hondros (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) had her shot blocked, which set up another corner kick for Bloomsburg.
Marlee Potillo (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) got a shot off from the set-piece play started by
Alivia Gallardo (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), but her attempt went wide, and the score remained 0-0.
Â
After 33 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Golden Rams broke the tie as Victoria Pungello got her head on the ball thanks to a long pass from Alyson Cutter. Pungello snuck her shot in just inside the far post on the ground for the 1-0 lead.
Â
West Chester continued its attack for the rest of the half as the Golden Rams put two more shots on net in the final 10 minutes, but Bloomsburg keeper
Riley Spingler (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) stopped both.
Â
The Golden Rams immediately put Spingler to the test to open the second half, but the graduate student keeper grabbed Pungello's shot 50 seconds in and kept it a one-score game.
Â
Ellie Rowe (Hetlerville, Pa./Central Columbia) had one last attempt for the Huskies, but her shot from about 25 yards out sailed just high off the crossbar, and the Golden Rams hung on for the 1-0 win.
Â
West Chester held a 13-6 advantage in shots, including a 9-0 lead in shots on goal.
Â
Spingler finished the day with nine saves for the Huskies.
