#5 Field Hockey Shuts Out #4 West Chester, 1-0

Huskies recorded their first victory over the Golden Rams since 2012

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The No. 5-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey team blanked No. 4-ranked West Chester, 1-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) clash at Steph Pettit Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Alyxandra Flick (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) finished off a shot from Elena Snodgrass (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton) in the 24th minute of the contest to register her fourth goal of the season as Bloomsburg (9-2, 1-1 PSAC) avenged its 2-1 road loss to West Chester (7-3, 1-1) from earlier this season.

The matchup proved to be a defensive showcase from the very beginning, with only three combined shots in the opening quarter. Aydan McFarland (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) posted the game's first shot on goal in the fourth minute, with Ryan Curly making the save to keep the score even early on.

The Huskies tested Curly and the Golden Rams' defense early in the second fame, with Kara Koch (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) and McFarland firing back-to-back shots in the opening minute. Flick netted the game-winner in the 24th minute, cleaning up an initial shot attempt from Snodgrass.

WCU looked to level the score just before halftime, earning a penalty corner as time expired. After West Chester drew a second corner, Jackie Nevel (Nescopeck, Pa./Berwick Area) saved a shot from Paige Wolfe before a third corner was awarded to the Golden Rams. Jasmine Miller's shot rolled wide as Bloomsburg entered the half up 1-0.

Bloomsburg thwarted five shots from WCU in the third before holding the Golden Rams without a shot in the fourth en route to the win.

The victory snaps a 15-game losing streak to the Golden Rams dating back to 2013. The maroon and gold last defeated West Chester on October 6, 2012 in a 3-2 overtime victory.

The Huskies outshot West Chester 9-8 while holding a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. It is the first time this season the Golden Rams have been held to single-digits shots.

Nevel picked up her fifth shutout of the season and 12th of her career with three saves on the day.

The Huskies return to action on Saturday, October 5 at 5 p.m. as they travel to Frostburg State for their first matchup against the Bobcats as a member of the PSAC.
