EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The No. 4-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey team fell in an overtime clash to No. 3-ranked East Stroudsburg, 3-2, at Whitenight Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite zero shots in the opening nine minutes, both offenses came alive in the final six minutes of the first quarter. Â Bloomsburg (11-4, 3-3 PSAC) recorded the first shots of the game off a corner with just under six to go.

After turning the first two chances aside, East Stroudsburg (11-2, 4-1) flipped the pressure on the Huskies with five shots in the final 78 seconds of the quarter. The stretch included a last-second surge from the Warriors that saw
Jackie Nevel (Nescopeck, Pa./Berwick Area) tally two saves in the final ten seconds.

Bloomsburg controlled the second quarter while holding ESU without a shot. A pair of early chances from
Kate Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) set the tone for the Huskies. Ferguson nearly opened the scoring with ten minutes to go, turning around the sprawling ESU goalkeeper for a shot that was cleared off the line by Julia Cooper. A shot moments later form
Kara Koch (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) was saved by Sydney Pope to keep the game scoreless.

With under 90 seconds to play in the half,
Alyxandra Flick (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) fired a shot into the circle for
Aydan McFarland (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area). McFarland tipped the shot into the air, allowing Ferguson to bat the ball out of mid-air and over the goalie to take the lead.

The Huskies came out of the halftime break firing as
Kara Koch (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) launched a shot from just inside the circle that went off the pad of Jet Vermeulen and in to move the score to 2-0.

East Stroudsburg took control from that point, recording a pair of goals from Minke Klijn and Jady van Gils. The Warriors tallied eight shots on goal in the second half but could not break the tie as the regulation whistle sounded.

The Huskies withstood five shots on seven corners from ESU before Bella Viruet completed the comeback for the Warriors with 2:12 to play in overtime.

Nevel posted 10 saves in the contest as East Stroudsburg finished with a 20-8 advantage in shots.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Wednesday, October 23 as they face off against Millersville at 6:00 PM.
