Men's Basketball Downed By Gannon in PSAC Clash

ERIE, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball team dropped its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game of the season to Gannon, 95-70, on Friday afternoon at the Hagerty Family Events Center.

Matt Bengel (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) came close to recording a 20-10 performance, finishing with 19 points and nine rebounds. The Erie-native shot 8-for-16 (50.0 percent) from the line and 3-for-4 (75.0 percent) from beyond the arc while also recording four assists. Tony Henderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) went 7-for-11 (63.6 percent) from the floor with a pair of threes to match his career-high in points with 17 while Louie Wild (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic) registered 16 points and three assists.

As a team, Bloomsburg (1-5, 0-1 PSAC) shot 28-for-62 (45.2 percent) from the floor, including 6-for-9 (66.7 percent) on three-point shooting in the second half.

The matchup saw the reigning PSAC champions, Gannon (5-2, 1-0), jump ahead to an early 5-0 lead. Bengel got the Huskies on the board with a corner-three before Jagger Dressler (Danville, Pa./Danville) tied the game with a reverse layup.

From there, the two teams traded one-possession leads until the halfway point of the first frame as Gannon's Mason Bennett put the Golden Knights ahead, 18-12, with a layup. Gannon controlled the rest of the half, taking a 40-27 lead into halftime.

Bloomsburg pressured the Golden Knights to start the second half, pulling within five points on an 18-10 run the spanned just over six minutes. The stretch saw five different Huskies find the basket. Gannon regained control from that point forward, winning the contest 95-70.

Bloomsburg spends little time off the court before its next matchup, as it heads to Clarion for a 3 p.m. meeting against the Golden Eagles on Saturday, November 23.
