Men's Basketball Falls in PSAC Bout to Clarion

CLARION, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball team dropped a back-and-forth battle with Clarion, 87-81, inside W.S. Tippin Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
 
Matt Bengel (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) notched a season-high 26 points on 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) shooting while hauling in a team-high six rebounds. Louie Wild (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic) dished out a season-high seven assists while dropping 17 points and five rebounds. Tony Henderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) notched double-digits for the third-straight game, posting 14 points.
 
Clarion (6-1, 2-0 PSAC) took the lead early in the contest, quickly jumping ahead to a 5-0 lead. Henderson nailed a corner-three to give Bloomsburg (1-6, 0-2) its first points of the game. From there, the Huskies went nearly shot-for-shot with the Golden Eagles as the score advanced to 17-14.
 
Nearing the halfway point of the frame, three-point makes from Bengel and Isiah Sherman (Philadelphia, Pa./Lincoln) put Bengel in position to give the maroon and gold their first lead, bringing the score to 29-28. Clarion fought back to regain the lead, taking a 47-40 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
 
The Huskies took control of the second half early on, going on an 11-2 run to start the half, and forcing the Golden Eagles to call a timeout. Clarion battled back and took a 10-point lead and put the Huskies back on the hunt down 64-54.
 
Bloomsburg found its grove and went on a 23-6 run to go up seven points with five minutes to play. The maroon and gold were unable to keep the lead, falling to the Golden Eagles 87-81.
 
The Huskies return home to the Nelson Field House on Tuesday, November 26 as they host Felician at 7:30 p.m.
