Comeback Bid Falls Short as Men's Basketball is Downed by West Virginia Wesleyan, 80-72

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball team saw its comeback bid fall short in an 80-72 loss against West Virginia Wesleyan at the Joe Retton Classic on Saturday night.
 
Louie Wild (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic) led the team with 22 points on 6-of-9 (66.7 percent) shooting while going 4-for-7 (57.1 percent) from beyond the arc. Tony Henderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) followed close behind with 16 points on 5-for-8 (62.5 percent) shooting while going a perfect 5-for-5 from the line.
 
After West Virginia Wesleyan (1-1) opened the scoring with a layup, Jagger Dressler (Danville, Pa./Danville) gave Bloomsburg (0-2) the lead by knocking down a three from the wing.
 
The Bobcats took control with a 14-4 run before three-pointers from Dressler and Danny Bruce (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) surged the maroon and gold back within one possession and a score of 17-15. A back-and forth sequence brought the score to 27-22 before the final media timeout of the half. West Virginia Wesleyan came out of break firing, going on a 15-5 run to take a 42-27 lead into halftime.
 
Henderson knocked down a three for the first points of the second half, before the two teams traded points for the first ten minutes of the half. The Huskies pulled back within 7 points of the lead before the Bobcats quickly regained its 15-point lead.
 
As the half winded down, Wild dropped seven points in an 11-0 swing for Bloomsburg to bring the score to 66-62. The Huskies attempted to tie the game but ultimately saw their comeback attempt come up short, dropping the contest 80-72.
 
Overall, Bloomsburg shot 44.0 percent (22-for-50) from the floor from the floor and 34.6 percent (9-for-26) from three-point territory. The maroon and gold shot 15-for-31 (48.4 percent) in the second half.
 
Bloomsburg is back in action on Wednesday, November 13 as they host Seton Hill inside Nelson Field House at 6 p.m.
