Parise Breaks 60m Hurdles Record; Women's Track & Field Opens Season Strong at Bison Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman Abigail Parise (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) shined in her Bloomsburg debut as she broke the 60-meter hurdles record at the Bison Opener. The Bloomsburg women's track & field team collected six PSAC Championship qualifying times and 15 top-10 finishes Saturday.
 
Parise stole the show for the Huskies with a fifth-place finish in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 9.22, breaking the previous mark by .11. Maddy Ikeler (/) took seventh in the finals with a time of 9.24, another PSAC qualifying time to join Parise.
 
Liberty Gearinger (/) finished seventh in the 400-meter dash at 1:02.03 while Natayla Heard took eighth at 1:02.28.
 
Ashlyn Albright (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) finished seventh overall in the 800-meter dash at 2:30.55 while Megan Gambogi (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) took ninth at 2:33.33.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Parise, Gambogi, Ikeler, and Raquelle Riggins (Emmaus, Pa./Southern Lehigh) finished eighth overall at 4:19.71.

In the field events, Coral Shivok (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) took seventh with a height of 3.35 meters (10' 11.75") in the pole vault to qualify for the PSAC championships. Parise added to her resume with a PSAC qualifying mark of 5.39 meters (17'. 8.25") in the long jump to take fifth overall. Devin Hubler (Minersville, Pa./Minersville Area) took eighth with a jump of 5.26 meters (17' 3.25") and Aria Messner (Avoca, Pa./Pittston Area) finished ninth at 5.21 meters (17' 1.25"). Anika Kransai finished 10th at 5.08 meters (16' 8").
 
Devin Hubler (Minersville, Pa./Minersville Area) hit her PSAC qualifying mark in the triple jump as she took fifth overall with a jump of 11.07 meters (36' 4") while Lindsey Peleaz finished 10th with a distance of 10.64 meters (34' 11").
 
Becca Martin (Wellington, Fla./Cushing Academy) posted a career-best throw of 12.32 meters (40' 5") to finish fifth in the shot put and qualify for the PSAC championships.
 
The Huskies return to action next Friday and Saturday when they travel to Susquehanna University for the River Hawk Early Season Invite.
