Baseball Falls in Series Finale Against Barton

Metzger went 4-for-4 and a triple shy of the cycle

WILSON, N.C. – The Bloomsburg baseball team dropped the final game of its series with Barton College, 15-5, in a non-conference matchup at Nixon Field.
 
Wyatt Metzger (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) put Bloomsburg (0-3) on the board in the opening frame with a single up the middle that scored Eli Riley (Harrisburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy).
 
The Huskies extended the lead in the second inning with a single from Brady Ebbert (Etters, Pa./Red Land) the brought home Jeremy Cawley (Duryea, Pa./Pittston Area) and put runners on the corners.
 
In the subsequent at bat, Metzger launched a home run over the left field wall to put the maroon and gold up 5-0.
 
Barton (10-0) posted 5 runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game before rattling off an additional ten runs across six innings en route to victory.
 
Metzger went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and a run of his own. The right-fielder fell a triple short of the cycle.
 
Riley completed two trips around the bases while Ebbert recorded a hit, a run, and an RBI. Josh Wilson (Clinton, Md./Bishop McNamara), Brady Gibble (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and Cawley each posted a hit in the contest.
 
Andrew Armstrong (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) was tacked with the loss after pitching one-plus inning. Daniel Koppisch (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) went 2.2 innings on the mound, striking out a pair of batters. The Bulldogs' Jacob Shapley took the win for Barton, picking up nine strikeouts across 5.2 innings.
 
The Huskies return to action on Friday, March 1 for a three-game series at Fairmont State.
