WEST UNION, W. Va. – The Bloomsburg baseball team opened its weekend series against Fairmont State with a dominate 17-4 victory over the Fighting Falcons on Friday afternoon.

Bloomsburg (1-3) hit six home runs and 11 extra-base hits en route to its win over Fairmont State (0-8).

Brady Ebbert (Etters, Pa./Red Land) recorded the first hit of the game on a double to center field before advancing to third on a single from the red-hot bat of
Wyatt Metzger (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area). With runners on the corners,
Josh Wilson (Clinton, Md./Bishop McNamara) launched a three-run shot over the left field wall to put the Huskies on the board.

The maroon and gold posted a pair of runs in the second to extend the lead. The first run of the frame came as
Jacob Reifer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia Area) stole second before
Brady Gibble (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) took off from third and beat out the play at home. The second came off a double from Metzger to bring Reifer home from second.

A two-run home run from Gibble tacked on an additional two runs in the third.

The Huskies' bats stayed hot in the fourth as they piled on four hits and four runs, highlighted by Gibble sending his second homer of the day over the center field wall.

Fairmont State broke up the no-hitter and drove in a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth.

Bloomsburg responded with its fourth home run in five innings, as
Eli Riley (Harrisburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) sent a solo shot over the left field fence in the top of the fifth. The Fighting Falcons notched their first home run over the game in the bottom of the frame.

Reifer hit his first collegiate home run in the sixth on a three-run shot over the center field wall.

Wilson picked up an RBI-double in the seventh to score
Christian LaBarbera (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Riley hit his second solo home run in the eighth to extend the lead.

FSU hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth but wouldn't record a hit for the rest of the game as the Huskies won 17-4.

Overall, the Huskies recorded 17 hits and 16 RBIs and scored in every inning but the ninth.

Metzger continued his hot streak, going 4-for-5 from the plate with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Metzger is 14-for-18 with seven extra-base hits through four games this season.

Wilson went 3-for-5 on the day, falling a triple short of completing the cycle. Riley, Gibble and Reifer each posted a pair of hits in the contest.

Scott Gilbert (Scranton, Pa./Abington Heights) got the start on the mound and picked up the win. He allowed just four hits and two earned runs while striking out 8 in 4.2 innings pitched.
Matt Vernieri (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat),
Nate Baranski (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West),
Owen Wilhide (York, Pa/Northeastern) and Nick Huebel each made appearances on the mound, recording a combined four strikeouts. Connor Tingler picked up the loss for Fairmont State.

Bloomsburg is back in action on Saturday, March 2 for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. to close out the series with Fairmont State.
