Baseball Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader with Fairmont State

Wilson went 4-for-4 in game one

WEST UNION, W. Va. –  The Bloomsburg baseball team moved to 2-4 on the season after splitting a pair of games to Fairmont State on Saturday afternoon.
 
Game 1
 
Bloomsburg (2-4) picked up the first run of the game on and RBI-single from Wyatt Metzger (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) to score Eli Riley (Harrisburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy). Metzger then scored on a sac-fly from Jonathan LaBarbera (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead after the top of the first. Fairmont State (1-9) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to even the score. The Fighting Falcons posted another pair of runs in the second to take a 4-2 lead over the Huskies.
 
The maroon and gold responded with back-to-back home runs from LaBarbera and Brady Gibble (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) in the third to take a 5-4 lead. LaBarbera and Josh Wilson (Clinton, Md./Bishop McNamara) scored on a two-RBI single from Ryan Flury (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) to extend the Huskies advantage to 7-4. Wilson drove in Bloomsburg's final run of the game with his fourth hit of the day on an RBI-single to bring home Brady Ebbert (Etters, Pa./Red Land).
 
Will Dean (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) picked up the win after allowing just three hits and zero runs in five innings pitched.
 
Game 2
 
Fairmont State racked up a pair of two-RBI doubles in the bottom of the first to en route to an early 5-0 lead.
 
FSU scored a pair of runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth to reach an 8-0 lead.
 
Brian Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) was tacked with the loss after allowing five runs in 2/3 innings pitched while the Huskies pitching staff combined for 10 strikeouts in the contest.
 
Wilson led the Huskies with a 4-for-4 performance in the doubleheader while Gibble and LaBarbera each recorded multiple hits and a home run on the day.
 
The Huskies travel to Chestnut Hill on Tuesday, March 5 for a non-conference doubleheader before opening up conference play against Millersville on Friday, March 8.
