HERSHEY, Pa. - The Bloomsburg men's tennis team battled a tough Daemen team on Saturday. The Huskies claimed the doubles point, but Daemen won the last four singles matches for the victory.
Vishesh Patel (Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India/Asia English School) and
Sergio Dilan (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Cedin) had a strong start to the match for the Huskies with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
Fernando Barros (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Hoosac School) and Jamie Soria followed with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles as well to claim the first team point of the match. Daemen avoided the sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Denis Dementev (Saint-Petersburg, Russia/) put the Huskies up 2-0 with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles.
Albert Martin (Barcelona/Instituto Menendez y Pelayo) pushed the Huskies' lead to 3-0 with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. Alex Lumanog got Daemen on the board with a tough battle at No. 1 singles with Patel. Lumanog won the first set 6-3 but Patel evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-2 win in the second set. Lumanog closed out the match with a 6-4 win in the third set. The win at No. 1 singles kicked off a four-match streak for Daemen to claim the team match, 4-3.
Iu Casamitjana (Igualada, Spain/Escola Pia Igualada) closed out the match with a close back-and-forth affair with Zachary Laplante at No. 6 singles Laplante took the first set 7-5 but Casamitjana kept the Huskies alive with a 6-2 win in the second set. Laplante won No. 6 singles and the match for Daemen with a 6-4 win in the third set.
The Huskies return to action on Friday as they host Salem University in Hershey, Pa. for a 3:00 p.m. match.
