SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg baseball team shutout Shippensburg, 2-0 and 3-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader at Fairchild Field on Friday afternoon.
Â
Bloomsburg (6-12, 3-7 PSAC East) posted 11 hits against Shippensburg (12-8, 6-4) while holding the Raiders to just seven hits on the day.
Â
Game 1
Â
The Huskies battled SU in a pitchers' duel early as either side allowed only one walk and no hits through the first two innings. Shippensburg recorded the first hit in the bottom of the third on a Erby Weller bunt to third base.
Â
Bloomsburg responded in the fifth as
Eli Riley (Harrisburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) singled through the left side with two outs.
Ryan Flury (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) moved Riley into scoring position in the next at bat with a single to center field.
Â
Up next was
Jacob Reifer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia Area), who loaded the bases on a single to the shortstop.
Â
Brady Ebbert (Etters, Pa./Red Land) stepped up to the plate and lined a two-RBI double down the right field line to put the maroon and gold on top.
Â
Bloomsburg held SU to just one more hit in the contest, downing the Raiders 2-0.
Â
Riley went 2-for-3 in the game while Ebbert's double proved to be the only extra-base hit of the game.
Â
Nate Baranski (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) went the distance for his first win of the season, allowing just two hits and striking out four in the shutout.
Â
Game 2
Â
The maroon and gold opened the scoring in the second as Flury brought
Jonathan LaBarbera (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) home from second on a left center field single.
Â
In the third, Reifer led off the inning with a third base single before Ebbert reached on a walk. A fly out to center field from
Wyatt Metzger (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) moved Reifer to third.
Â
LaBarbera grounded out to third, bringing Reifer in to extend the lead. A fielding error from the Shippensburg second baseman allowed
Owen Wilhide (York, Pa/Northeastern) to reach first while bringing Ebbert in to make it 3-0 Bloomsburg.
Â
Scott Gilbert (Scranton, Pa./Abington Heights) held the Raiders to just three hits across the final five innings. Gilbert struck out six with no walks and just five hits in the complete game victory.
Â
Reifer went 2-for-3 with a run and a walk as the lead-off batter. Ebbert registered a run while drawing three walks in game two.
Â
Bloomsburg recorded 13 walks on the day while walking just one Shippensburg batter.
Â
The doubleheader shutout is the first time Shippensburg has been held scoreless in consecutive games since April 18, 2019, and the first time the Raiders have been blanked in both legs of a doubleheader at home since April 24, 2009.
Â
The Huskies return to action on Sunday, March 24 as they host Shippensburg for the conclusion of the season series at 1 p.m.
