BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The #25 Bloomsburg lacrosse team fell to Millersville, 18-12, Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies fell to 8-4 on the year and 4-4 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (East) action while the Marauders moved to 4-8 for the year and 2-6 in conference play.
The Marauders got on the board first as Rachel Kenney scored two minutes into action. The Huskies won the ensuing draw control and
Madison Coyle (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) streaked to the net where she passed the ball off to
Kayla Stressman (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) for her 18
th goal of the season and a tied game, 1-1, at 12:44.
The tie did not last long as the Marauders scored at the 12:01 mark to kick off a five-goal run and take a 6-1 lead.
Reiley Knize (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) halted the run with her second goal of the season as the Huskies were playing a woman-down at the 9:24 mark.
Amanda Stoll (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) followed it with a goal of her own at the 8:44 mark to cut the lead to three, 6-3, with 8:44 to play. Kaleigh Funk scored less than 30 seconds later to push the lead back to four, 7-3, at the 8:17 mark.
Stressman and
Julia Cote (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) went back-to-back to get the Huskies to within two, 7-5, but the Marauders got two of their own to take 9-5 lead.
Kate Roberts (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) and
Brianna Austin (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) sandwiched a pair of goals around another one from Millersville to cut the Marauder advantage to 10-7 at the break.
The Huskies came out of halftime firing as Coyle scored back-to-back goals in the first five minutes to get the Huskies to within one, 10-9, before Austin tied the game with 9:47 to play, 10-10, with her ninth goal of the season.
Millersville answered the Huskies four-goal run with a five-goal run of their own. The Marauders scored the final five goals of the third quarter to push their lead to 15-10 with 15 minutes left in regulation.
Coyle opened the quarter with her team-leading 33
rd goal of the year just 27 seconds in to the quarter. Millersville rattled off three-straight to take a 18-11 lead before Stoll scored with 1:44 to play for the final score of 18-11 in favor of Millersville.
Coyle led the Huskies with three goals and an assist while Stressman had a pair of goals and an assist. Stoll won a team-best 10 draw controls While Coyle led the team with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) finished the game with four saves in 45 minutes while
Emily Graham (Wantagh, N.Y./St. Anthony's) made two saves in 15 minutes.
The Huskies are right back to action on Saturday as they travel to #2/1 West Chester for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
