Baseball Secures 6-4 Senior Day Victory Over Queens

Metzger moves into solo sixth place on Bloomsburg home run leaderboard

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg baseball team defeated Queens College, 6-4, on Senior Day in a non-conference matchup with the Knights at Danny Litwhiler Field on Friday afternoon.

Queens (25-15) opened the scoring in the second inning with an RBI-single to right field. Later in the inning, Thomas Napolitano launched a ball to the wall in left-center field where Brady Gibble (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) dropped the catch after colliding with the fence. This allowed the Knights to score a pair of runs to advance their lead to 3-0 early on.

Bloomsburg (13-28) responded in the bottom of the frame as a throwing error from the Queens' third baseman allowed Joe Levis (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) to make at all the way to third. This allowed Gibble to make his way all the way home from first, beating out the play at home for the Huskies' opening run.

Jonathan LaBarbera (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) brought the maroon and gold within one in the third inning, easily making it in from third on a wild pitch.

The Huskies saw plenty of success in the fifth as Wyatt Metzger (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) tied the game with a deep home run to the trees in left field. With his 24th career home run, Metzger sits solely in sixth on the Bloomsburg all-time home run leaderboard.

A Nico Ingalls (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional) double to right-center field later in the frame brought in the go-ahead run in Josh Wilson (Clinton, Md./Bishop McNamara). Judah Miller (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) then lined an RBI-single to center field to score LaBarbera. A sacrifice-bunt from Gibble extended the Huskies lead to 6-3 in the fifth.

The Knights posted a run in the ninth but left a pair of runners stranded as Bloomsburg took home the 6-4 victory.

Metzger went 2-for-4 from the plate with his PSAC-leading 11th home run of the season. Gibble went 2-for-2 at the dish with one run and one RBI in his 100th career start. Judah Miller (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) went 2-for-3 on the day.

Cole Coolbaugh (Wyoming, Pa./Wyoming Area) earned the win, allowing one run and four hits in six-and-a-third innings on the mound. He struck out five batters. Baranski went two-and-a-third after getting the Start for Bloomsburg.

The Huskies travel to Queens College in Flushing, N.Y. for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
