Baseball Splits Sunday Twin Bill With Shepherd

Metzger moves into eighth on Bloomsburg home run leaderboard

BLOOMSBURG, PA – The Bloomsburg baseball team split its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader with Shepherd at Danny Litwhiler Field on Sunday afternoon.

Wyatt Metzger (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) went 4-for-7 on the day to lead the Huskies while the maroon and gold tallied 15 total hits.

Game 1 – Shepherd 4, Bloomsburg 1

Bloomsburg (10-17, 7-11 PSAC East) fell behind in the third as Wyatt Miles hit a solo home run over the right-field wall to put Shepherd (11-15, 6-8) ahead 1-0.

The Huskies tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI-double down the right-field line to score Jeremy Cawley (Duryea, Pa./Pittston Area) from first.

The game remained deadlocked until seventh inning when Corey Jamison notched a three-run homer to right field to give the Rams a 4-1 lead.

Nate Baranski (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) was charged with the loss after striking out nine batters and allowing three runs.

Daniel Quintana went six innings to earn the win, striking out seven and allowing just one run. Eli Lam picked up the save.

Game 2 – Bloomsburg 5, Shepherd 1

After Cawley reached first on a dropped third strike in the first, Metzger once again doubled down the left-field line to bring Cawley home.

An RBI-groundout from SU in the fourth tied the contest.

The Huskies rallied four consecutive runs in the fifth, with Josh Wilson (Clinton, Md./Bishop McNamara) bringing Metzger home to take a 2-1 lead. Jonathan LaBarbera (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) then extended the Bloomsburg lead with a right field-single to score Brady Ebbert (Etters, Pa./Red Land).

Metzger scored again in the sixth when he crushed a two-run home run into the trees over the left field fence.  His home run moves him into a tie for eighth on the Huskies all-time home run leaderboard with 21.

Will Dean (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) picked up his third win of the season, allowing one run and striking out three in a complete game.

Metzger went 3-for-4 in game two, falling a triple short of completing the cycle.

LaBarbera went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

The Huskies travel to Shepherdstown, West Virginia on Monday, April 8 to complete the season series with the Rams.
