No. 5 Field Hockey Dominates in 7-1 Victory Over New Haven

McFarland records eight points with her second hat trick of the season.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.  – Aydan McFarland (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) recorded eight points as No. 5-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey took down New Haven, 7-1, at Steph Pettit Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

McFarland, the nation's leading scorer, matched her career-high in single-game points with three goals and two assists.

Bloomsburg (6-1) came out of the gates firing, with McFarland recording the game's first shot and drawing a penalty corner just 20 seconds in. On the ensuing corner, Sophie Lawler (Newport, Pa./Newport) slammed in McFarland's rebound for her first of the year.

McFarland put the Huskies ahead 2-0 halfway through the quarter, easily maneuvering past the New Haven (1-3) defense and sliding her first of the game past the UNH goalkeeper, Rae Kline.

The Chargers answered early in the second frame, as Eliza Caven found the back of the net on a corner.

Bloomsburg brought its lead back to two goals at the 7:56-minute mark of the second as McFarland connected with Kate Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) in the center of the shooting circle.

The second half saw McFarland post her second of the contest, scoring from a near-impossible angle to put the Huskies ahead, 4-1. Kara Koch (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) fed the ball to McFarland on the goal line who then fired the ball off the legs of the goalie and into the back of the net.

Alyxandra Flick (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) got on the board in the third, flicking the ball over Kline for her second of the year.

The fourth quarter saw roles reverse on the Huskies' sixth goal as McFarland sent over a one-timer pass to Koch for her first goal of the season.

McFarland found the back of the net for the third time, picking up a loose ball in front and spinning around the goaltender to complete the hat trick. Her third goal marked her tenth of the season, setting a new season-high for the senior. McFarland eclipsed her nine-goal mark from last season in nearly one-third of the required games.

Bloomsburg outshot New Haven, 22-6, while posting a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The Huskies return to action on Friday, September 20 as they take on Roberts Wesleyan under the lights in a 7 p.m. contest in Rochester N.Y.
