Newark, Del. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team fell in a non-conference matchup to Wilmington, 3-1 (12-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-27), at WU Athletics Complex on Thursday night.

Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) led the Huskies with 16 kills while
Katie Kuehl (Aston, Pa./Archmere Academy (Del.)) finished with 12.
Elise Adelman (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) posted 41 assists across four sets, recording her season-high for assists in a four-set contest. Adelman and Sophia Wales each registered three aces while the maroon and gold posted 11 on the day.

The contest stated with each team recording a kill before a four-point run from the Wildcats moved the score to 5-1. From there, Bloomsburg (2-10) and Wilmington traded points to bring the score to 16-11. WU then posted a 9-1 run to close out the first set 25-12.

Wilmington opened the second set with a quick three-point run before Bloomsburg responded with a 3-1 run to level the score at 4-4. After a back-and-forth between the teams brought the score to 11-10 in favor of the Wildcats, WU posted six-straight kills to take a 17-10 advantage.

A service error gave the Huskies back the serve and they quickly closed the gap with a 7-1 swing to bring the score to 18-17. Johnson and Adelman recorded kills in the sequence while
Alynna Haggadone (Broomfield, Colo./Legacy) picked up an ace. Wilmington then went up 22-19 and looked to close out the set. A trio of kills from Kuehl highlighted a 6-1 run to complete the comeback and win the set 25-23.

Neither side found the early momentum in the third set, battling to a 7-7 score. The Wildcats posted the set's first major run, outscoring the Huskies 5-1 to take a 12-8 lead. Bloomsburg countered with a 7-1 swing to take the lead. Johnson picked up two kills while
Emily Gustie (Crofton, Md./Crofton) recorded an ace in the sequence. A 7-1 run from the Wildcats gave the momentum and the lead back to hosts before closing out the set 25-23.

The fourth set opened with each side trading points to a score of 4-4. Bloomsburg went on a 9-2 run with kills from Wales, Adelman, Kuehl and Johnson. A 5-1 run from Wilmington moved them within three before the Huskies pushed the score to 17-11 on a three-point run. After Bloomsburg moved the score to 20-13, WU applied the pressure and scored six-straight points to bring the score to 20-19. Kills from Wales Kuehl and Haggadone put Bloomsburg within one point of forcing a fifth set. However, the Wildcats managed to post a 6-1 run to comeback and end the fourth set 27-25.

Overall, Bloomsburg finished with 51 kills and 11 aces in the match.

The Huskies return to action on Friday, September 27 as they head on the road to open conference play against Lock Haven at 6 p.m.
